About us

Castro is a reference to the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco, one of the most tolerant neighborhoods in the world, in one of the favourite cities of our founders Stefan de Bruijn and Frits Huffnagel. A city whose abbreviation, SF, matches the first letters of their first names.

Network

Castro has an extensive network in the media and government. We regularly organize activities for our network. Every quarter, Castro Invites are held for clients and acquaintances. An interesting speaker shines his or her light on a particular topic.

On Jan. 15, 2020, we organised "Castro 1 Year," with Femke Halsema and Mark Rutte as guest speakers.

On May 15, 2023, we celebrated "Castro - Four More Years. We had our clients, friends and acquaintances vote on a new four-year term. The result was overwhelmingly positive, which is why we are happy to continue for four years.

During this evening we also announced our partnership with New Balls Please. Together we organise corporate events under the name New Balls Please Amsterdam.

Friday, September 8, 2023 the new district chairman Amélie Strens of Amsterdam-Centrum opened our new office at Czaar Peterstraat in Amsterdam! Many thanks to everyone who attended our opening. And especially also to Annemarie van Gaal, who told an inspiring story about entrepreneurship.

Castro was founded in 2019 by two former VVD politicians and now has a diversity of political colors among its staff. We have good contacts in different political parties, which manifested itself, among other things, in the appearance of BBB party leader Caroline van der Plas at Castro Invites in 2024.

Castro itself initiates new projects. For example, around the NATO Summit in The Hague, we organized our own Pre-NATO Summit, with AmCham, Microsoft, RTX, Palantir and Citi as partners. The program included a video message from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and contributions from former NATO SG Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Defense Secretary Gijs Tuinman. It is part of Castro's strategy not only to advise and assist clients in implementation, but also to bring people together during policy events, which we organize together with our subsidiary New Balls Please Netherlands.
